| Q: | How do I uninstall SpamAware? |
| A: | You can uninstall SpamAware like any other Windows software. Use "Add/Remove Programs" from the Windows settings. |
| Q: | What does the error: 'Error creating a DNS resolver socket: Unknown error at Mail/SpamAssassin/DnsResolver.pm' mean and how can I get rid of it? |
| A: | It means, that SpamAssassin could not create an internet connection to check blacklist servers. So you may have a firewall or an antivirus software installed, which blocks SpamAssassin. Permit the files (especially sadll.dll) in the program directory of SpamAware for internet access for solving this issue. |
| Q: | I'm using SpamAware 4.3 with several accounts in Outlook Express. After SpamAware scanned a message, the information, via which account the message arrived is lost. Can this be solved? |
| A: | No, not yet. Outlook Express does not allow to modify existing mail messages, so SpamAware needs to create a copy of each scanned mail to add the scan results to it. But it is not yet supported to keep the account information when copying a mail. |
| Q: | (I just installed SpamAware but) The toolbar is not shown in my Outlook 2000/XP/2003/2007. What can I do? |
| A: | Outlook sometimes blocks plug-ins when they have caused an error instead of showing an error message.
A possible solution can be :
1. open Outlook
2. click on "Help" in Outlooks menu bar and select "Info"/"About"
3. in the new window you find a button "Deactivated Elements..." on the bottom right
4. use this button and activate the SpamAware.dll again. |
If these steps does not help, uninstall and reinstall SpamAware and try the same procedure again.
| Q: | I want to use my installed antivirus software with SpamAware. Whenever I press the test button, my virus scanner detects a virus but SpamAware says, it doesn't. Why? |
| A: | Your antivirus software must be configured to delete or move (e.g. into a quarantine folder) virus infected files and archives. Only then SpamAware will be able to use it. |
| Q: | What minimum version of Outlook or Outlook Express does SpamAware require? |
| A: | SpamAware requires at least Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express 6.0. |
| Q: | Can I use SpamAware in Outlook on a Windows 98/ME operating system? |
| A: | Yes, you can. But be sure your Outlook version is at least Outlook 2000.
Outlook Express is not supported under Windows 98/ME |
| Q: | I installed SpamAware in Outlook Express on a Windows 98/ME operating system, now Outlook Express freezes on startup, what can I do? |
| A: | Because Microsoft and many more software companies stopped supporting Windows 98/ME, SpamAware will no longer run on Windows 98/ME with Outlook Express. To use SpamAware on Windows 98/ME, you need Outlook 2000 (or higher) or at least Windows XP for using it with Outlook Express. |
| Q: | When I print mail messages using Outlook, the results of SpamAware are also on this print. Can I avoid this? |
| A: | No, because SpamAware adds it's score and test-hits as a property to each mail and Outlook prints all such properties. |
| Q: | Why can't I add words to the blacklist like to the whitelist? |
| A: | Words which are clues to be in spam mail are usually handled well by the rules of SpamAssassin.
Advanced users may however customize the rules of SpamAssassin. |
| Q: | I haven't seen any Cancel button, how can I cancel scanning? |
| A: | The Cancel button in the menu appears only during scanning. |
| Q: | How can I use my own spam folder in Outlook? |
| A: | First you have to create the folder you like to use in Outlooks folder list. Then select it in Options | Scanning. |
| Q: | How can I see what spam score a mail has achieved? |
| A: | Right click on the mail and select "Options". On the window popping up is a text field at the bottom. The line with the entry X-Spam-Status shows the spam score : e.g. X-Spam-Status: No, score=3.0 required=6.3 . |
| Q: | Some spam was not scored as spam, so I decreased the threshold and forced scanning again but nothing happened. Why? |
| A: | Changes in the options take only effect on new, not yet scanned mail. |
| Q: | Can I use SpamAware on IMAP accounts too? |
| A: | No. This feature is not yet supported. |
| Q: | How can I influence what properties a mail has to have to be scored as spam? |
| A: | Use the button "Add to blacklist"; adding a spam mail to the blacklist SpamAware will add the sender's address of the selected mail to the blacklist and train it as spam . This will improve future results.
If this is not enough for you, you may create your own SpamAssassin rules (see SpamAssassin). |
