Changes to version 3.6.4 (15 January 2011):

Bugfix: The option "Copy NTFS permissions list of files and folders" can now be used again. This option was broken in V3.6.3.
The order of the context menu entries of a backup job has been aligned to those of Windows.

 

Changes to version 3.6.3 (10 January 2011):

Added address bar to "Select files" dialog
The log view supports multiselection now.
Bugfix: Incremental Backup no longer copies files further on from revX to revY if they were deleted in the source.
The support for Windows 2000 has been dropped because Microsoft dropped it in July 2010.

Changes to version 3.6.2 (25 April 2010):

Bugfix: Incremental Backup didn't work properly, when files from the selection list were directly under c:\ or d:\ etc.
Bugfix: The portable installation works again.
Improvement: The option "Consider files as equal with time difference that is at most" allows values bigger than 60 sec.
Improvement: One can use environment variables in the destination path. Example c:\%date% will expand to c:\2010-04-14.
Some minor improvements and bugfixes have been incorporated.

 

Changes to version 3.6.1 (25 Mar 2010):

Bugfix: Zip restore works faster and some minor problems were fixed.
Bugfix: Some visualization errors in the progress dialog were fixed.
Bugfix: Sometimes the GUI was not drawn properly, when one restored SmartBackup from System-Tray.

Changes to version 3.6 (15 Feb 2010):

New: Added support for Windows 7
New: Incremental Backups can be created (See chapter Full & Incremental Backup for detailed information)
New: Now you can influence which information shall be visible in the log (warnings, errors, information)
New: The logs of your backup jobs are now stored in databases instead of textfiles. This improves performance for very large logs.
New: The registry backup has been improved and the progress dialog now shows the current branch being exported.
New: The new option "Close Progress Dialog after finishing operation" allows you to set the default behavior of the progress dialog.
Bugfix: If the destination of a backup job is a disconnected network drive, SmartBackup now tries to reconnect it before aborting.
Bugfix: When comparing file times now daylight savings are considered.
Bugfix: When restoring a ZIP backup, directories with Unicode characters can now be checked again.
Bugfix: When restoring a single file from FTP, SmartBackup no longer shows an error.

Changes to version 3.5.1 (16 Jun 2009):

Bugfix: On some English systems German messages were shown.
Bugfix: Under certain circumstances performing a backup with the activated setting "Copy NTFS permission list for every file" lead to an error message.

Known issues:

Admin privileges are required under Windows XP and Vista to perform CD/DVD backups.

 

Changes to version 3.5 (02 Jun 2009):

New: A backup of files that are in use is now supported under Windows Vista (Administrator privileges are required).
Bugfix: The date of files and folders is now correctly backed up when destination is a ZIP-archive.
Bugfix: File system backups can be performed to a CD/DVD-drive again, if the system supports packet writing.

Changes to version 3.4 (11 Mar 2009):

New: Now you can create sequences (sets of backups) which will automatically backup/restore all included backups when you backup/restore the sequence (for more information see help-file).
New: NTFS-Compression of files is now backed up.
New: The progress dialog of backups has been redesigned.
Bugfix: If a file that has to be backed up already exists in the destination directory, SmartBackup now renames the old version of this file before backing up the new version. This prevents deletion of the file in case of abortion of the backup or failure of the copy-progress.
Bugfix: If a folder cannot be deleted while performing a synchronization, the log-entry now shows the path to the folder explicitly.

Changes to version 3.3.1 (27 Aug 2008):

New: New backup-specific option "Follow Mount Points and External Symbolic Links": This indicates whether SmartBackup has to follow reparse points under Windows. We recommend to keep this option turned off, especially under Windows Vista which uses symbolic links intensively. New: If you hit the exit button of SmartBackup while there are backups in progress, now a dialog is shown which asks you to confirm the abortion of these backups.

New USB-Mode: If SmartBackup is installed on an USB drive it will automatically perform a previously defined backup job whenever the USB drive is plugged in.
New: SmartBackup now copies empty folders in backup jobs.
Bug-fix: SmartBackup now checks if both source and destination paths are accessible before performing a synchronization job.
Bug-fix: SmartBackup now also resets the archive bit after performing a ZIP backup.

Changes to version 3.2:

You can perform an automatic refresh of your backup whenever the destination drive gets connected, e.g. when an USB stick or an external HDD is plugged in.
Synchronization and exact backups will delete empty folders in the destination if they have been deleted in the source.
Filesystem backups are able to copy files which paths consists of more than 260 characters.
The options for automatic backup refreshes are now separated from other settings.
The backup job's name may not contain characters that are not allowed in Windows file names. This will be checked when entering the name.

You can now copy the log to the clipboard in order to paste the information into another document, e.g. an e-mail.
Performance of showing large log files has been increased.

Changes to version 3.0.1:

During a synchronization backup SmartBackup can now ask before deleting files. You can make decisions for the current file or all following files. You can activate this feature in the properties of each backup set.
You can allow SmartBackup to overwrite read-only files. You can activate this option on the "Refreshes & Other Settings" tab in the properties of each backup set.
Performance of storing the synchronization status has been increased.
Bug-fix: The CD/DVD burning software component prevented Windows from shutting down when SmartBackup was running.

Changes to version 2.4.1:

Changes to version 2.4:

It is now possible to set the behaviour of the progress windows in three types:
1.Show progress window
2.Show progress window and close it when finished
3.Do not show progress window
The description of a backup set is now also displayed in the overview table.
For those who want to perform automatic backups more frequently, an interval can now be set from 3 minutes to 1 day.

Changes to version 2.3:

Fixed major problem with "exact copy" and "synchronization" feature: If single files were selected, SmartBackup copied the whole folder under certain circumstances.
Fixed hanging problem : the problem that SmartBackup was hanging at the end of a backup should be fixed now
multiple threads added: it is possible to run more than one backup job at a time
added transfer speed display to ftp and file system backups
autostart problem, that SmartBackup closes at Windows start-up when the option "Run as tray icon" is not checked, is fixed.

 

Changes to version 2.2:

new synchronization feature: "Synchronization" completely synchronizes two folders,
that means copying and deleting on both sides. "Exact Copy" synchronizes the destination folder only,
that means it is only copied to destination folder and deleted on destination folder.
new some additional layout features: new images for volume types and more volume types choosable in the Properties and Creation Dialog.
Thus there are less additional options to configure.

memory problems solved : If SmartBackup was running for a long time it used a lot of memory. This behaviour does not occur any more.
FTP Backup: Active or passive mode can be changed manually
If the archive bit of a source file is set back after copying, can be changed manually.

The usability and the appearance of the user interface has been improved.
A feature has been added to the Properties of a backup set that allows to exclude certain files types from a backup by defining wildcards.
Files which match one of the specified wildcards are not considered during the backup process.
