This is the main window of SmartBackup. Depending on whether you have selected a backup job or a Sequence in the shown list the possible actions change, which  includes the entries in the context menu and the buttons on the right hand side.

Hint: If you need further information about sequences see this chapter.

Hint: In the chapters of this help file we may distinguish between the backup-context and the sequence-context depending on whether you selected a backup job or a Sequence in the list of the main-window. If the list is empty and you have not created any backup jobs yet, you remain in the backup-context.

The following picture shows the main window in the backup-context

Backup-Context

While residing in the backup-context the main window of SmartBackup provides the following functionalities:

Create

Simply clicking: Creates a new backup job.
Hitting the arrow and choosing Backup: Creates a new backup job.
Hitting the arrow and choosing Sequence: Creates a new Sequence.

Backup

Refreshes the selected backup job without any changes (e.g. new file selection). The previously selected files and folders of your backup volume will be copied to the previously selected destination.

Restore

Restores chosen files and/or folders in a location of your choice.

Select Files

In order to change the files of a backup volume, press this button. A window will open which gives you the opportunity to make a new selection.

Properties

Opens the 'Backup Properties' screen. It allows to change the configuration of the backup set.

View Log

Opens the log file for accessing log information. The next screen shows you a formatted version of the log file, listing all operations which have been performed on the volume.

Import

Imports volumes which are currently not in the volume list, e.g. after a new installation of SmartBackup or a system crash. After adding the volumes to the list, they can be refreshed, restored, etc. like every new created volume.

Duplicate

Copies a volume (which means the volume properties and selected files configuration, not the files themselves).

A new volume named 'Copy of volumeName' appears in the list. You can change the name in the 'Properties' menu.

Remove

Deletes the current entry in the list of your backup volumes and the configuration file ('*.SBF') in your application directory, but not the files in the backup archive. During backup, the configuration file will be copied to the archive, too. I.e. backups which are not in the volume list can be achieved by pressing the 'Import' button.
