Before copying a file, SmartBackup checks whether this file has to be copied or not. Unchanged files will never be copied. But you can restrict this criterion by selecting one of the following options in the list:
|
Other settings are:
Copy NTFS permissions list of files and folders |
If you want to preserve the NTFS permission list for every file activate this option. This works only with Windows XP and Vista. In order to activate this option, you need to be logged in as Administrator. |
Allow overwriting of read-only files |
By checking this option you allow SmartBackup to overwrite read-only files. If you are doing synchronization backups, this should be activated to ensure your backup is complete, even if some files are read-only. |
Follow Reparse-Points |
If SmartBackup shall follow reparse-points under Windows XP and Vista this option has to be enabled. By default this option is disabled, because it can lead to unpredictable results. Use this option with caution! |
Show this backup in the Explorer context menu |
This option indicates if the volume should be shown in Explorer context-sensitive menu. It makes it possible to add files within the Windows Explorer. |
Log all performed file operations |
All operations performed by SmartBackup are written to the log file. If it is not checked only errors and warnings are written to the log file. |
Log skipped files |
If this option is activated files and folders that are skipped because they have not changed or they are excluded or not included by patterns they will be logged as well.
Hint: This may enlarge your log files remarkably and it may slow down refreshing the backup job but it can be useful to determine why a certain file or folder was not backed up. |
Activate spanning on multiple disks |
This option activates spanning on multiple disks for backup on removable media like e.g. floppy disk. It is only available if the destination is a removable disc drive. |
Not all options are available for every backup type. Also certain options depend on other options.
