Overview

SmartBackup is an inexpensive, fast and easy to use backup software for Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista. Many people recognize the importance of backups when it's too late and their important files are already lost. It is often difficult to backup the hard disk regularly, because it requires much time and may easily be forgotten. And that's the point where SmartBackup helps you. On the one hand it helps you to select only your important files for backup, which results in a short time needed for a backup. On the other hand it automatically keeps your backups up to date and copies only those files which have changed since the last backup.

If you analyze a normal hard disk, usually just 3 - 10% of the space is used by your data files. Most files on your hard disk are program files, system files, DLLs, etc. which can easily be recovered by reinstalling the software. SmartBackup helps you to find and backup only your important data files and can update them automatically, e.g. once a day on Windows start. Since only new and changed files are copied, this regular backup only takes seconds, but you can always be sure to have a second copy of all your important files. Additionally you can use SmartBackup to replicate your data files to a second hard disk, a network server, your notebook, a FTP server in the internet, a CD or DVD.

•	The directory structure is preserved on the backup volume.

•	Files which are already present on the backup volume and did not change will not be copied. This results in extremely short backup times if backups are done regularly.

•	An Explorer like interface makes SmartBackup easy to use.

•	SmartBackup can handle Unicode filenames.

•	You can mark any file for backup from the Explorer context menu. This allows you to decide which files should be backed up while you are opening, saving or copying them, without starting SmartBackup.

•	SmartBackup is able to refresh a backup automatically once a day or once a week, either at a given time or on Windows startup or whenever the destination drive (e.g. an USB stick or an external HDD) gets connected.

•	You can use SmartBackup to replicate your documents and data files to a Notebook, a second hard disk or an other PC in your local network.

•	SmartBackup can backup to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD+R Double Layer.

•	Files that cannot be copied because they are already in use can be copied anyway by using Windows' Volume Shadow Copy Service.

•	A search function for your hard disks helps you to find your documents and data files.

•	Files or folders can be restored using drag & drop in the Windows Explorer.

•	Registered users will receive login information for our customer's area, where they can always download the latest version.
