Common

Q:What mail servers are supported by SmartPOP2Exchange?
A:SmartPOP2Exchange works with any SMTP server. Since it uses the SMTP protocol to send/deliver the mail to the server, it just has to be able to communicate to port 25 (changeable) of the SMTP server.

Q: Does SmartPOP2Exchange also work with Microsoft Exchange 2007 / 2010?

A: Yes, SmartPOP2Exchange works with Microsoft Exchange and together with every other standard SMTP server.

Q:Will my settings be kept when I install the full version/newer version of SmartPOP2Exchange?
A:Yes, they will. It doesn't matter if you upgrade to a newer version, to a bigger version (from 10 POP3/IMAP accounts to unlimited) or if you previously had the trial version, your settings will be used by the new installation.
If you want to downgrade from the full version to the 10 POP3/IMAP account version, then you have to remember that this version will only process the first 10 POP3/IMAP accounts.
Q:Where does SmartPOP2Exchange save its settings?
A:Since version7.0 of SmartPOP2Exchange it saves its settings in an XML files in the "%COMMONAPPDATA%" folder:
 C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\JAM Software\SmartPOP2Exchange\SmartPOP2ExchangeSettings.xml
You can easily include your SmartPOP2Exchange (the XML file) settings in your backup by adding this file.
Q:When I click on the button to save settings I always get a warning that another user may have the configuration application open, but I'm sure that I'm the only one. Why does this happen?
A:Since version 6 of SmartPOP2Exchange there is Remote Control available. When using the Remote Control facility, it may occur that several configuration applications (GUI) are running. To avoid loss of settings SmartPOP2Exchange keeps track about how many GUIs are running. If one GUI wasn't closed properly, the counter could not be decremented, so this warning appears every time you try to save settings.
There are three possibilities to reset the counter:
1. on focused "Save settings" button press Ctrl+Shift+S or
2. change the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Jam Software\SmartPOP2Exchange\GUIAlreadyOpen to "0" or
3. restart the PC.
Q:Must SmartPOP2Exchange be installed on the same machine where the Exchange Server is running?
A:No, SmartPOP2Exchange can be installed on any PC in your network. As it uses the SMTP protocol to send/deliver the mail messages to the Exchange/SMTP Server, it just has to be able to communicate to port 25 of the SMTP / Exchange Server.
Q:Does SmartPOP2Exchange collect mail, even if the configuration application is closed?
A:Yes, it does. SmartPOP2Exchange consists of a configuration application and a system service. The system service is started automatically when Windows is started and does the actual processing of the email. The configuration application is for monitoring and setup purposes only.
Q:How can I be sure, that your product does not lose mail messages?
A:SmartPOP2Exchange has a very detailed log file and it deletes a mail from the POP3/IMAP only after it has been successfully delivered to the SMTP server. If any problem occurs, it simply leaves the mail on the POP3/IMAP server until it has been delivered successfully.
Q:The log file takes several seconds to load. Can I speed it up?
A:You can accelerate the process by reducing the number of days an entry stays in the log file.
Q:Is it possible to use one POP3/IMAP account for multiple users?
A:Of course it is, although we do not recommend it. This setup is known as a "catch all" account. Check the option "Send messages to the mail address found in their message header (catch-all account)" on the POP3 / IMAP account setup form to automatically forward the mail messages to the appropriate accounts. You can also create rules for every SMTP user to declare which mail should be forwarded to which address.
If you want to learn more about catch-all-accounts, please refer to the specialized FAQ.
Q:How many mail messages per day can be delivered using SmartPOP2Exchange?
A:The exact number depends on the system SmartPOP2Exchange it is running on. To increase the throughput, you can disable the spam & virus checking.
Nevertheless, on an average server, with spam and virus checking enabled, you can achieve 10,000 mail messages per day. With spam and virus checking disabled a normal value is 100,000 mail messages.

Q:How can I order SmartPOP2Exchange? How much does it cost?
A:For questions regarding prices and purchasing please have a look at our price list and our ordering FAQ.
Q:Why don't you use activation codes that turn the trial version into a full version?
A:We do not work with activation codes because you can find them very easily on the internet. We work with separate trial and full versions. After purchasing our software, customers get an account for our customer's area where they can download the full version for at least 12 months. We will also send a CD at an additional cost. Our customers will also receive an installation key, which will be necessary to install the full version. You should keep both in a safe place. Installing the full version over the trial version will preserve your existing data and settings.
Q:Although I have purchased a full version of SmartPOP2Exchange, it still shows "UNREGISTERED" in the window title. Why?
A:There are 3 possible reasons why "UNREGISTERED" still shows up:
1. You did not download and install the full version from the URL you received after the purchase.
2. You have accidentally installed the trial version again. (Have you been asked for an installation key?)
3. You have installed the full version to a different folder than the trial version, which is now still on your disk.
