SpaceObServer offers a large range of filter functions to detect files with specific properties in the scanned directories. You can define personalized or activate predefined filter with the integrated File Search.
Open the File Search dialog by the menu item "Configure..." in the main menu "Search / Filter", or the adequate toolbar item.

Here you can select a saved file search, save new file searches or get an overview about the activated search options. To save your personal file search first select the search options on the other tabs (Filename Pattern, Size/Date,...). Then use the "Save" button to store your search options to a new file search, or override any existing. Free a saved file search with the "Delete" button. Saved file searches are stored in the Registry. After a restart they are still available. Use the "Reset" button to clear all activated search options. Use the "Import" and "Export" buttons to save and restore file searches to/from XML files. |
|
Filename Pattern |
In the upper check list you can search for files with specific filename patterns (e.g. "TEMP*": all files where the filename begins with TEMP). Use the checkboxes in the list to activate certain patterns without deleting them. |

Size |
You may declare a minimum/maximum file size (real size, allocated space or wasted space) so that only files bigger/smaller than this value will be found. |
Date |
You can search for files with specific last access, last change or creation time. |
Owner |
Here you can search for files owned by specific users. |
Attributes |
You can search for files with specified file attributes (e.g.: "Temporary" or "Archive"). By using the check boxes in the list, you can activate and deactivate the attributes. |
Search for files with a full path longer than a configurable length. This allows you to find paths longer than 255 characters which cause problems e.g. in the Windows Explorer. |
With the two radio buttons above the "OK", "Cancel" and "Help" buttons you can decide if files have to match ALL or at least ONE of the selected search options.
Note: After you commit your search settings with the OK button, the search results are shown in the SpaceObServer views. So, the results are not presented in a plain list, but shown in its file system tree structure. All views like "Chart", "Extensions" and "Top 100 Files" will be updated. If you want to have all the selected files in one list you can select the "Show Details Plain" option in the "View" menu.
