This summer, four new team members started at JAM: two apprentices training as IT System Management Assistants, a working student in Business Development, Marketing and Sales, and a psychology graduate starting his career as a Business Analyst. All four work where software and customers meet. Here, they introduce themselves and share what their first few months have been like.

Starting an Apprenticeship in IT Systems Management

Mo has been with JAM Software since August 2026 and is completing an apprenticeship as an IT systems management specialist. With his high school diploma, which focused on economics, he already has the necessary foundation. After briefly starting university, he realized that he wanted to take his career in a different direction. At JAM, he has now found exactly the combination he was looking for: business-related topics paired with a technical side that is new and especially exciting for him. For him, it was “perfect.”

Mo is currently starting out in the Sales department, where he is already gaining early insights into the processes and responsibilities of his profession. What surprised him most positively is how quickly he has been allowed to take on responsibility. That gives him a really good feeling and shows him that, as an apprentice at JAM, you are taken seriously from the very beginning. Looking ahead, he is especially curious about working in Marketing, which he also finds very interesting.

From Customer Contact an Apprenticeship

Achraf has also been part of JAM Software since August 2026, where he is completing an apprenticeship as an IT Systems Management Specialist. His career path so far has been diverse: After graduating from high school, he gained experience in web development, both as part of his apprenticeship and during an internship. He then worked in customer service and sales. His desire to further his career in software ultimately led him to JAM.

At the beginning of his apprenticeship, Achraf is working in technical support. There, he gets to know the products, customer concerns, and the company’s technical side firsthand. His first impression has been entirely positive: the work is enjoyable, interesting, and constantly brings up new topics. He is especially looking forward to everything related to software and the web—areas in which he sees many exciting opportunities for his future development.

Two Perspectives on the Same Apprenticeship

Even though Mo and Achraf have different interests and career paths, they’re both starting the same apprenticeship and gaining insights into various areas right from the start. This week, their rotations overlap before they each move on to the other area. That’s precisely what makes the IT Systems Management apprenticeship so versatile: it combines business acumen with technical expertise and demonstrates how closely customer contact, software, and internal processes are intertwined.

Why JAM?
Their answers complement each other well. Mo particularly appreciates that JAM develops its own software and has an international presence. Achraf highlights above all the flexibility, the opportunity to work independently, and teamwork. For both of them, the start of their apprenticeship therefore seems to be one thing above all else: varied, hands-on, and a great introduction to a professional field with many opportunities.

From University to Business Development

With a bachelor's in Psychology and a master's in Human Factors, Can moved to Trier for his first job in the field. He originally planned to become a UX researcher. Today, he works as a Business Analyst in Business Development. The two aren't as far apart as they might seem, because his work still centers on a topic that fascinated him at university: how people and technology interact.

When he read the job posting, he found more overlap with his background than he had expected, especially with psychology. A sample task during the application process sealed the deal. That was when Can realized the job could be a great fit for him. For him, the move is above all about "new opportunities for personal growth."

Why would a psychologist become a Business Analyst?

It may sound unusual at first, but it makes sense. To understand markets and customers, you first have to understand people, and that's exactly what Can was trained to do. He uses the skills he learned at university every day.

So far, his personal highlight has been the research projects. Can collects qualitative and quantitative data, analyzes it, and turns numbers and statements into insights the team can act on. He already had the methodological know-how, and now he finally gets to put it into practice.

Can's work is anything but routine. Every week brings something new, and that variety is exactly what he enjoys most. But it's not only the work that helped him settle in so quickly: he gets along great with his team, and the relaxed atmosphere made starting his career that much easier.

Balancing Studies and Work

"I want to have more confidence in myself." Lilli started at JAM Software in July with that goal in mind. Since then, she has worked as a working student in Business Development, Marketing and Sales. She has now finished her bachelor's degree in Business Psychology and is starting a master's in Project Management.

In her job search, one thing mattered most to Lilli: she wanted to see what everyday work is really like and use what she had learned at university. Her role at JAM covers three departments, so she gets to work on a wide range of topics. She feels at home mainly because of the good atmosphere in the teams.

What does a working student job add to your studies?

Theory and practice complement each other - that’s exactly what Lilli has been experiencing every day since she started. She finds that much of what she learns in her psychology and economics classes applies to her job, which helps her make sense of it all. At the same time, she gains early insights into how a company operates and how different departments interact.

She doesn’t shy away from acknowledging that balancing her studies and work can sometimes be challenging. Juggling both isn’t always easy, she says, but she really enjoys it. The flexibility at JAM is especially important to her, as it allows her to successfully balance her university studies and her job.
