Version 9.8

Improvements

  • Get a better handle on duplicate files: The redesigned file operations dialog now shows a preview of planned changes before execution. New, flexible deduplication options (hardlinks, symlinks, shortcuts) give you full control, while smart color highlighting and tooltips ensure an intuitive experience.

  • Duplicate search results can now also be filtered by column after the search.

  • Installation is now also possible if the user does not have admin rights on the machine on which the installation is being carried out. As with a Windows Store app, the application is installed in the user profile. Users with admin rights are asked during the initial installation whether they want to perform an installation for all users or continue without admin rights.

  • The duplicate search has been expanded to include filter options. If possible and useful, completion options are displayed.

  • The deduplication log now shows the link type used during replacement (hard link, symlink, shortcut).

Error corrections

  • When using the /EMAIL command line option, a more appropriate error message is displayed if SMTP is not configured.

  • Tooltips of the search results have been made more readable and clearer if a large number of criteria are used.

  • Loading scans from an SQLite file could cause the user interface to freeze. This problem has been fixed.

  • A problem has been fixed that could cause the application to crash when exporting path lists to a file.

  • The MSI installer now shows TreeSize in the Windows app list without the addition "Professional". The two setup variants .exe and .msi now behave in the same way

  • A bug that could cause a crash when selecting multiple items in the Top 100 file list has been fixed.

  • In the file search, an error occurred when searching for permissions with a user name in the format DOMAIN\User (with backslash), which aborted the search. Domain-qualified user names are now processed correctly. Users who previously received an error dialog when using permission filters with domain user names can now perform such searches without any problems.

  • After a search for unique files with a large number of results (e.g. ~100,000 files), expanding and collapsing the result group could cause the application to freeze. This problem has been fixed.

  • A possible freezing of the application when reading synchronized cloud paths (e.g. OneDrive) has been fixed. The query has been optimized so that slow or unresponsive Windows shell extensions are largely bypassed when evaluating in the background.

  • Repeated right-clicking on folders during a scan could lead to increasing slowdowns and even freezes. This has been fixed.

  • When moving files and folders in SharePoint Online, the version history and metadata of the moved items are now retained and are not updated by the file operation.

  • An error that could occur when sending the search result by email if the search was not completed has been fixed.

  • UI scaling for high-DPI Windows settings has been improved for the file search module.

  • An error that caused an endless loop of authentication attempts when entering an incorrect certificate path has been fixed.

  • We have also made many other small bug fixes and performance improvements.

Miscellaneous

  • Security Update: The component SQLite 3 has been updated.

  • File outputs are now output as UTF8 without BOM to ensure greater compatibility with other programs.

  • We are preparing to deprecate the XML format. The export of scans to XML is no longer available in the user interface, but you can still import existing XML files or export them via the command line for the time being. Please switch to the newer and faster SQLite format soon.
