Version 8.6

Improvements

  • SpaceObServer now offers the use of an integrated PostgreSQL database, which replaces the previous SpaceObServer Embedded database. As with its predecessor, this database is ready to use after one click, but offers significantly better performance. The PostgreSQL database also supports the use of the DataCentral service to connect our search tools UltraSearch, the SpaceObServer Web Access and the SpaceObServer Client Access.

  • Important note for all users who still have "SpaceObServer Embedded" configured as their database: We strongly recommend switching to the now integrated PostgreSQL database, as it offers significantly better performance with zero administration effort. You can initiate this in the SpaceObServer settings under "Database", your data will be retained if you wish.

  • The automatic installer for MS SQL Server Express, which is integrated into SpaceObServer, now installs version 2025 of the free SQL Server Express from Microsoft. This version has increased limits compared to its predecessor.

  • Due to internal database optimizations, the search filters in the SpaceObServer interface have been accelerated, especially by file name with path.

  • Some adjustments have been made to the configuration interface for the "Automatic Reports" to improve user guidance.

  • By optimizing the determination of file system permissions (ACLs), scans in which the scan option "Calculate permissions and save to database" are now performed much faster.

  • The operations that update the database following an update scan have been accelerated.

  • Errors and access problems when calculating the MD5 checksums are no longer written to the Windows Event Viewer for each file, but bundled for the entire scan.

  • Applying filters to file paths on a loaded directory tree, for example via the "Search" menu, could cause the user interface to freeze. This problem has been fixed.

  • An issue that caused Data Life Cycle operations to contain unencrypted credentials when copying or moving to Cloud Storages has been fixed. We recommend adjusting the corresponding operations and updating the passwords.

  • A problem with memory growth during data lifecycle operations has been fixed.

  • A problem with recognizing the correct database driver when connecting to an MS SQL Server under Windows Server 2025 has been fixed.

  • Fixed a bug in the "Automatic reports" that caused the export option for exporting "Individual files" to no longer work correctly.

  • A problem whereby the status of a scan was not always reset correctly after calculating the MD5 checksums has been fixed.

  • Many other minor improvements and corrections have been made.
